The
Optospider™ DMMC 520nm duplex 10Mbps
media converter was developed for long distance data links with a link
length of 80m to 250m. The typical handling and installation advantages
of polymer optical fiber (POF) cables are applicable now for
transmission distances that are considerably longer than available POF
systems.
Today's 100Mbps POF systems use 650nm red LED and
socalled 4B5B coding scheme. These systems are distance limited to
about 120m due to signal dispersion on the POF cable. A further
distance limit is the rather high POF attenuation of 16.5dB/100m in the
red window at 650nm.
The new developed
Optospider™ DMMC 520nm duplex 10Mbps system overcomes these limitations by:
- the
data rate reduction from 100Mbps to 10Mbps removes the signal
dispersion problem for distances up to 250m, because the signal pulse
length is increased from 8ns to 50ns (Manchester coding),
- the
low data rate allows the use of green LED with a wavelength of 520nm
instead of 650nm and reduces thus the signal attenuation from
16.5dB/100m to 8dB/100m at 520nm.
